From my almost 20 years of green chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academia as an adjunct professor and as a private consultant I will discuss several important and successful green chemistry initiatives at the academic-industry interface.  These include programs sponsored by a pharmaceutical company to support developing green chemistry among academic students and faculty, what a group of green chemistry advocates from major pharmaceutical industry has been doing to expand the adoption of green chemistry in academia, and the efforts of a business-to-business green chemistry group to support green chemistry education.  From my academic experience I will present examples of cross department collaborations and academic/industry green chemistry interfaces.  Where I think the next opportunities are for advancing green chemistry at the academic and industrial interfaces, such as increased academic green chemistry funding from grant-awarding government agencies such as NSF and NIH, will be presented as well.
