A series of long-chain, aliphatic molecules, all including tris-2-amino-ethyleneamine (tren) has been produced using a Schiff’s base condensation and one of three aliphatic aldehydes (octanal, decanal, or dodecanal). The syntheses are straightforward, and can all be run in air at ambient temperature. The ability of these target molecules to complex in a non-specific fashion with metal ions makes them strong candidates for water remediation. Their syntheses and characterization will be presented.
