The influence of electrolytes containing fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) on the electrochemical performance of lithium metal electrodes has been investigated with Li||Li and Cu||LiFePO<sub>4</sub> cells. Ex-situ surface analyses of lithium metal electrodes plated with FEC-containing electrolytes were conducted with X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Transmission Electron Microscopy. These investigations will be discussed in detail, revealing that the nanostructure of the Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) plays an important role in improving the performance of lithium metal electrodes for next-generation energy storage.<br/>
