As more states are legalizing adult use of recreational cannabis, a serious conflict remains unresolved between state DUI laws and modern scientific research. The disparities between states regarding the burden of proving what constitutes DUI cannabis has led to a disproportionate amount of arrests and convictions by law enforcement and juries, respectively. The best way to fully understand the issue is through a science-based review of concurrent studies that explores the complexities involved in THC and DUI. Here, we will explore current challenges in regulatory strategies, pharmacokinetic factors in cannabinoid metabolism, and future directions for finding the best possible approach for public safety.<br/>
