Ours is an era of rapid technical innovation, with more sophisticated lasers, more sensitive detectors, faster cameras, and rapidly expanding computational power. Physical chemistry in general, and reaction dynamics in particular, are disciplines in which advances are strongly driven by such technological innovations. To achieve new insights we must harness these emerging techniques and strive to develop new ones. Our focus in this presentation will be on new tools developed in our work and ways in which these open new insights into chemical reaction mechanisms and dynamics. We will introduce DC sliced velocity map imaging and show how this, in combination with powerful theoretical simulations, revealed the roaming radical reaction mechanism. We will highlight current topics in roaming radical reaction dynamics, then turn to survey a range of new approaches we have developed and their applications, including chirped-pulse microwave spectroscopy in uniform supersonic flows; spin-polarized H atom Rydberg tagging; and intrabeam scattering for ultracold collisions.<br/> <br/>
