The use of Trypan Blue, a diazo dye, was explored as a method for detection and quantification of arsenite, As(III), in water. Absorption and fluorescence spectra of this dye in the absence or presence of arsenic were measured at room temperature. Calibration curves of arsenic in aqueous media were generated using absorption and fluorescence data. The detection limit of this system is ca.15 μg/L. This measured value is close to the US-EPA suggested safe limit in drinking water of 10 μg/L.
