Indole and its derivatives are important structural motifs in many natural compounds. Also, indole is an electron-rich heterocycle which displayed diverse bonding modes with transition metals. Recently, we have systematically studied the reactivity of imino-functionalized indoles with rare-earth metal amides [(Me3Si)2N]3RE(μ-Cl)Li(THF)3, and rare-earth metal alkyls RE(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2 with findings of different reactivity patterns and new bonding modes of the resulting ligands with central metals (Scheme 1). We have found that the corresponding rare-earth metal alkyls with functionalized indolyl ligands could be catalysts for the isoprene controllable polymerization in the presence of cocatalysts. In this presentation, we will report these results.
