Nature utilizes high-valent metal oxo species to carry out a wide variety of critical catalytic processes. Dimethyl sulfoxide reductase (DMSOR) family of enzymes promote oxygen atom transfer (OAT) reactions through molybdenum oxo centers. Herein, we present a novel strategy to induce nitrate and perchlorate reduction chemistry of previously known Mo=O catalysts that are otherwise incapable of achieving OAT with these substrates. The OAT reactions are studied by IR, UV-Vis, and NMR spectroscopy along with isotopic labeling studies.<br/>
