The growth of silver nanoparticles on glass substrates is altered by annealing the nanocrystal seed rather than by changing the chemical or physical growth conditions. Silver nanotetrahedron (AgNT) monolayers with different nanoparticle sizes were prepared on glass substrates by the overgrowth of silver hemispheres (AgHSs), which were in turn formed by the annealing at 200 <sup>o</sup>C of colloidally prepared silver nanodisk (AgND) monolayers. Conversely, the direct overgrowth of AgND monolayers resulted in the formation of silver nanocubes (AgNCs) instead. The size of the AgNTs was increased by increasing the concentration of the growth solution. AgNTs displayed four localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) spectral peaks; three are assigned based on theoretical simulations to dipolar plasmon modes while the highest energy plasmon mode corresponds to a quadrupole mode.
