Studies on nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions have been reported in scientific literature and practiced in undergraduate organic laboratory experiments. In this study we describe our efforts to develop a procedure that includes a wide variety of <i>para</i>-substituted phenol to react with 4-fluorobenzaldehyde. The scope of the reaction was explored and discussed. The experiment allows the students to work and characterize of their own unknown product with IR and 1H NMR.
