In 2017 the Indiana University Libraries, along with Dr. Amar Flood in the IU Chemistry department, and others throughout the institution, came together on an awarded grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources with funding from the Sloan Foundation for a post-doc in data curation for the sciences, specifically chemistry focused. Review of applicants is ongoing and we are hopeful that a successful candidate will be hired in Summer 2018. This paper will address our strategies for hiring, the expectations for the post-doc - including the to-be-designed individual development plan, and the coordinated supervision of the position.<br/><br/>Due to the shifting nature of scholarly communication in the chemical sciences, research libraries strive to provide excellent service while riding huge waves of change. It is imperative that science librarians continue to be relevant to their faculty, researchers, and students. This requires librarians and their administration to have clear vision for sustainable practices while taking risks that still promote the mission of the research library - to preserve data and its resulting created knowledge for future scholars and provide timely accurate access to what is presently and past disseminated.  Managing the data deluge - the recognized trend of the 21st century -- requires coordination across many sectors within and outside academia and research library faculty are necessary colleagues in these endeavors. Research libraries along with their broader faculty administrators must find a way nurture and promote these staff in order to respond to global demands for more access to curated data to promote science.
