Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and coordination polymers have emerged as promising multifunctional materials for a wide variety of applications such as sensors, and catalysts, due to their potential porosity, chirality, and incorporation of optically active linkers and metal centers.  This work focuses on the incorporation of optically active organic linkers such as 1,1′-binaphthol (BINOL) based ligands which are of particular interest due to their stable axial chirality and fluorescence.  Of particular interest are strategies for forming and tuning the fluorescence of novel coordination polymers and frameworks from accessible and affordable dicarboxylates which exhibit interesting optical properties and potential chirality. Through the careful selection of additives and linkers we are able to assemble interesting architectures under mild synthetic conditions with various metal ions in diverse oxidation states. This generalizable approach enables us to rapidly explore different metals and identify relevant geometries for both transition metals and lanthanides, leading to unique architectures for specific properties such as porosity, chirality, or luminescence.<br/>
