Chemical information service has a rich history over the past 100 years. Throughout the last century, chemical information services were provided under a variety of job titles including Library Chemists, Literature Chemists, Chemistry Librarians and Chemical Information Specialists. This presentation will provide an historical overview of the changing qualifications, job duties, and specific services provided by chemical information professionals. While there are a variety of modern chemical information services such as cheminformatics support, information literacy instruction, or electronic laboratory notebook support, there are many core services that have existed from the early days such as abstracting, indexing, data extraction, and bibliography creation that are just as important today as they were 100 years ago. I will discuss my vision of modern chemical information services and argue that a return to past core information duties is necessary for the future.<br/>
