Polymers have been used extensively in personal care products. The polymers used in personal care products range from both synthetic and natural polymers. The high demand for using polymers in personal care products is mainly because it is easy to obtain various final performance product attributes just by altering the structures and properties of the polymers. When it comes to fine-tuning the sensory experience offered by a skincare or haircare product, polymers open up vast potential for variation and individualization. Recently, natural polymers are playing increasingly important role in formulations and some have become important core ingredients for cosmetic products. Several applicable examples are with proteins, which are valued for their strong moisturizing and film forming properties. Examples of polymeric materials used in personal care products, in relation with structure property relationship as well as efficacy proof will be given in the presentation.
