Described herein is a method for the transfer dehydrogenation of cyclic alkanes to alkenes and aromatics using synthesized homogeneous iridium pincer complexes and H<sub>2</sub> acceptor. This method is a promising alternative for the industrial energy intensive dehydrogenation process as iridium pincer catalysts have greater selectivity relative to heterogeneous catalysts and require significantly lower reaction temperatures.
