Twenty years ago, library and information science programs offered classes on information instruction that focused on teaching students to search. While today’s students still need to learn search skills, there are other gaps between their experience and their instructors’ and profession’s expectations that librarians can help to fill.  Extrapolating from student and instructor interactions over the past twenty years, we present a series of potential areas in which in-person or asynchronous instruction can be provided by the academic chemistry librarian of the future.  Some potential topics include research and publication ethics, good authorship practices, personal data annotation and storage practices, information evaluation, identification of “fake news” and predatory publications, and the meaning behind impact metrics.
