Iron(II) taken as ferrous ammonium sulfate when reacted with acidic solution of o–phenanthroline produced an orange solution of ferrous tris–o–phenanthroline complex. The spectrum of the solution showed a strong broad band at a maximum of 513 nm. Three-dimensional plots of absorbance versus wavelength and concentration are reported. Iron(III) was reduced to iron(II) by NH2OH.HCl. The product was accordingly complexed and data obtained were treated as for the iron(II).
