In order to enhance the reactivity of aromatic molecules, researchers have explored complexes with electron-rich metal centers as dearomatization agents. While these metal complexes have successfully dearomatized aromatics, these reactions typically produce racemic mixtures. In order to create an enantioselective reagent, we have synthesized a chiral, C2-symmetric tetraamine ligand and several molybdenum complexes of this ligand. These compounds were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, combustion analysis, and x-ray crystallography (Fig.1). Future research will investigate whether a dihapto molybdenum CO2 complex can be modified and used to give a dihapto molybdenum naphthalene complex.
