We explored organometallic compounds based on iron or molybdenum, as possible antibacterial or antifungal agents. The inhibitory or proliferative properties each compound was evaluated in different fungi, yeasts and bacteria. This research may provide possible alternatives to control or combat the excessive growth of pathogens where a sterile environment is needed. For the evaluation yeasts such as S. cerevisiae, C. guillermondii, C. albicans, Rhodotorula and bacteria we use S. aureus, S. typhymurium and C. freundii were grown in their specific culture media: for yeast we use Saboraud Dextrose agar (SDA) and for bacteria Mueller-Hinton agar (MH). We exposed the organisms to 15μL of the organometallic compound dissolved in DMSO and impregnated on sterile paper discs. We incubated the organisms already with the compound for 24 and 48 hours, after which the halo of inhibition was measured. A test was considered negative if the organism grew after incubation and did not create a halo of inhibition. If there was a halo of inhibition we considered it a positive test. Results show that S. aureus growth was inhibited by Ferrocenoil-(17β)-estra-1,3,5(10)-triene-3,17-diol, Ferrocenoil–(8R,9S,13S,14S)-3-hydroxy-13-methyl-7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16-octahydro-6H-cyclopental[a]phenanthrene-17-one and Ferrocene-6F. While S. typhymurium, C. freundii, C. guillermondii y C. albicans growth was inhibited only by Ferrocene-6F.
