The ACS chapter in the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez (ACS-RUM) is distinguished by being stable and united as an aromatic compound. The requirement to be an aromatic compound is to be cyclic (ring-shaped), planar, and have a ring with resonance (conjugated pairs). Aromatic molecules are very stable, and do not break apart easily to react with other substances. These special characteristics allow the chapter to maintain its sturdiness, after years of hard work and finally reaching its aromatic resonance stability. Despite all the vicissitudes (strikes, hurricanes, economic problems, etc.) that Mayagüez has experienced, the chapter remained resilient. It has moved beyond the academic and is now a refuge for all students that need support in personal and educational situations. In addition, ACS-RUM is characterized for the bond created between member and chapter which is as unique and as strong as aromantic compounds. Therefore, the chapter has something that not many other chapters have, aromatic resonance. The members are active and contribute to all the activities the chapter has to offer. Our mission is to provide a variety of activities to make our members feel comfortable and secure such as: Chemistry Festivals, School Visits, Lab Coat Ceremony, Chem Off, Webinars, Professional Talks, Food Sales, and Free Coffee.
