The American Chemical Society Student Chapter at the University of St. Thomas (UST) remains one of the largest student organizations on campus and has received numerous recognitions within the past decade. UST ACS strives to showcase the versatility and the importance of science through a wide multitude of activities. Our events include mentoring chemistry and physics students, demonstrating chemistry experiments to underprivileged children to encourage interest in the STEM fields, inviting professionals to educate members about the various chemistry topics, hosting career fairs and educational chemistry presentations, promoting the need for environmental sustainability by actively participating in a campus-wide recycling program and by initiating a composting program, and more. We also collaborate with the local section, ACS-Greater Houston Section (ACS-GHS), to provide a series of lectures geared towards the public to increase awareness of the prevalence of chemistry in everyday life. The overall success of UST ACS can be attributed to thorough planning, active publicizing of events, and effective communication between the members and the officers.
