The UK Royal Society of Chemistry Process Chemistry and Technology Group are leading the way to challenge the UK industry through its membership and networks to think differently about how to approach the worlds future process chemistry and technology challenges. There have been many articles produced on the different aspects of future process chemistry and technology challenges. Learned bodies and key influencing organisations across the world are trying to accelerate the introduction and breakthrough of new science and technology. This may result in significant improvements in areas such as food production, medicine and electronics. Sellafield Limited, UK has used an innovative way to engage with the supply chain. Sellafield Limited has worked with academic and industrial partners to apply a disruptive approach to attempt to make a 'game changing' step change to improve the way that the company solves it's most difficult and complex issues. Within Sellafield Limited Analytical Services Programme an event called a Game Changer was held in November 2017 and hosted at the UKs National Physical Laboratory in London. This involved the company presenting a number of different challenge statements specifically related to analysis and measurement of nuclear materials in different group sessions and asking for proposals to address these problems. The company offered to chance for successful proposals to fund each to develop a business case to submit for further funding to justify conducting a feasibility study. This approach requires organisations to reach out to the wider supply chain to improve the engagement to present the key challenges that it faces and ask for proposals to solve these problems in new or innovative ways. This may look to identify applications that have been used in other industries or sectors but never applied in the market within which they work. This could also involve supporting the breakthrough or development of new science and technology to solve a specific problem. The RSC PCTG has an ambitious plan to engage with the UK and international scientific, engineering and technology community to promote engagement on specific topics where there are significant opportunities to help to accelerate innovation. The PCTG has chosen specific topics and this presentation will discuss those topics and the challenges for each.
