<br/>Inquiry-based learning has become an education buzzword. There are many resources available to help teachers incorporate hands-on activities that foster the growth of their students’ critical thinking skills. However, it could be even more beneficial to get more teachers involved in their own research through the help of a university or international organization. This past summer, I had the opportunity to conduct research in Lanzhou, China with a group of students from the Case Western Reserve University Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department. I learned a great deal about the research process including experimental design, effective data communication, and experimental procedure modification from this experience. It is important to share how these experiences translate back to being an educator in science. The focus is specifically on how research opportunities are beneficial for teachers and how incorporating research, especially international experience, can be beneficial for students.
