The composition of Navy jet fuel differs from that of commercial Jet-A. In this work, chemical mixtures were prepared from dodecane, butylcyclohexane, butylbenzene, and isocetane as model systems for Navy jet fuel. The mixture was optimized using properties that impact the transport and combustion of fuels in engines and safety: density, viscosity, surface tension, flash point, speed of sound, and bulk modulus. We present the chemical analysis of the jet fuel and a comparison of the measured properties of the jet fuel with those of the model mixtures.
