Conjugated organic molecules with easily manipulated photophysical properties are important in the growing field of organic materials.  Previously, our group has synthesized molecules with chromophores containing an electron donor, such as bithiophene and fluorene, attached to a quinoxaline ring electron acceptor that were highly fluorescent and solvatochromic.  Cofacially stacking these chromophores led to a red-shift in emission that was modulated by their degree of overlap.  Recently, we extended this work to include analogs with a dimethylaniline donor, revealing a new family of highly emissive and solvatochromic compounds.  Due to the increased donor strength, their emission was highly red-shifted and accompanied by large Stokes shifts and increased band broadening as solvent polarity increased until their emission quenched in highly polar solvents.  Synthesis, photophysical data as a function of solvent polarity, and computational studies will be presented.
