The Open Millifluidic Inquiry System (OMIS) is a 3D printed syringe pump and suite of reaction vessels that facilitate small scale chemical reactions and analyses.  The system was designed with facile construction, ease of use, flexibility and low costs in mind, making it not only a viable automated flow system for teaching laboratories, but also a useful entry into the area of digital fabrication of scientific instrumentation for undergraduate researchers.  Instrument construction is simplified by using a low-power stepper motor and a simple command interface that can be accessed via any computer with a USB port.  Printing of the components and building the syringe pump can be completed in one day at a cost of approximately $50.  Depending on the size of syringe used, the OMIS syringe pump can deliver fluids at rates from 60 to 300 µL/min with a precision of 3%.  The system can be used to explore the continuous-flow synthesis, and several examples of how one may incorporate OMIS into the undergraduate curriculum will be presented.
