Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have paved to be one of promising renewable energy technologies because of their low manufacturing cost, tunable device architectures, and excellent photoelectrochemical properties. To achieve outstanding efficiency for PSCs, these devices should have high quality perovskite films and appropriate electron and hole transporting properties with long diffusion length. Therefore, many researchers in the field of photovoltaic cells have focused on the discovery of promising hole transport materials (HTMs). Many HTMs ranging from polymers to small molecules have been reported to improve cell conversion efficiency. To make perovskite technology as a potential candidate for industrial application, development of inexpensive, chemically stable, and efficient HTMs is critical. In the course of our program to optimize perovskite technology, we have proposed a new class of donor-aceptor planar and donor substituted HTMs (TH series) for efficient dopant-free PSCs. Herein, we report an efficient and simple route to synthesize compounds <b>TH101</b>-<b>104</b>. The PSCs based on these HTMs exhibit efficiencies in the range from 10.6% to 15.1%. Our finding will offer a new strategy for future rational design of HTMs. The hole transporting properties of these TH series might be enhanced by changing different electron donating and withdrawing substituents to impact their polarity. Such molecular modifications to explore their roles in developing better performances of PSCs are currently underway in our laboratory and will also be reported in the meeting.
