In 2017, based on the American Cancer Society, cancer was accounted for the death of 600,100 U.S. citizens. Chalcones are a natural occurring scaffold that have presented a wide range of biological activities, including antitumor activity. Chalcones bearing heterocycles are being researched due to the numerous biomedical properties the substituents add. Among the heterocycles presented in this work are: pyridine, thiophene, piperidine and isoxazole. Furthermore, because of the impact it has on the biological properties of compounds, ferrocene is also being incorporated in the chalcone structure. Thus, combining heterocyclic chalcones with ferrocene, opens a broad path to compounds with potential as anticancer and antioxidant agents. Our approach includes the synthesis of the ferrocenyl chalcones through a Claisen-Schmidt reaction, under solvent free or reflux conditions with yields between 40% and 60%. Characterization of these products were performed via 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-VIS, FTIR and CV. Also, the bioanalysis of radical scavenging and cancer cells (HeLa, MDA-MB-231, MCF-7 and A-375) of these compounds was assessed. After 24 hours of incubation at a concentration of 25 µM, the chalcones inhibited from 13% to 31% of the MDA-MB-231 cell line. In addition, salts derivatives were synthesized from the ferrocenyl chalcones, through a SN2 nucleophilic substitution. Characterization and bioassays results of the salts derivatives will be presented.
