Development of an effective high temperature Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS) catalyst is of interest in process intensification that combines methane reforming with FTS synthesis. In prior work, it was found that Fe catalysts supported on SBA-15 performed relatively well at 430 deg. C. In this work, we report on a study of promoted and unpromoted Fe/SBA-15 catalysts for high temperature Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis of hydrocarbons from syngas. We investigated the effect of manganese, copper, and potassium on FTS synthesis at 430 deg. C.<br/><br/>The catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, TPR, N2 Physisorption, SEM, and TEM. The catalysts were activated in synthesis gas (H<sub>2</sub>: CO = 2:1) at 430 deg. C and then tested for performance at the same temperature and atmospheric pressure. The test results showed that iron supported on SBA-15 catalysts with manganese promotion could improve the CO conversion when compared to the unpromoted catalysts and catalysts promoted with copper and potassium. Catalysts with manganese promoter also showed a decrease in carbon dioxide selectivity from 76.1% to 50.1%, an increase in C2-C4 selectivity from 9.60% to 30.0% and also an increase in C5+ selectivity from 0.21% to 2.15%. The catalysts with potassium promoter showed a negative effect on CO conversion whereas copper promotion did not show much effect on carbon dioxide selectivity.
