The solar hybridized dual fluidized bed system could increase the usage of renewable energy and overall energy conversion and decrease CO<sub>2</sub> emission in power generation sector. The dual fluidized bed systems easily integrate a CST process and a combustor or a gasifier because solar thermal materials can be used as fluidized bed materials. However, the design of dual fluidized bed reactors is very difficult, because the interactions between riser, bubbling fluidized bed reactor, cyclone, loop-seal are very complicated. The hydrodynamics modeling of gas-solid flow in dual fluidized bed reactors is necessary for thermal conversion reactor design and scale-up. Additionally, there is not enough information about solar thermal materials in a CST process, solar hybridized dual fluidized bed system, and the integration of a CST process and dual fluidized bed reactors. In this study, the solid circulation rate of solar thermal materials for heat carrier and storage is investigated in a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. In particular, the effects of solid circulation rate on overall efficiency, heat carrier capacity, and other operation values are analyzed to design a solar hybridized dual fluidized bed system. The solid circulation rate of solar thermal materials could affect heat storage capacity in the CST section and the overall efficiency of the solar hybridized dual fluidized bed system. A CFD model was built with Barracuda Virtual Reactor<sup>®</sup> using the MP-PIC method to simulate the hydrodynamics of a solar hybridized dual fluidized bed system. The solar hybridized dual fluidized bed system consists of riser, cyclone, hopper, bubbling fluidized bed CST reactor, and loop-seal. It was assumed that air was injected to riser, bubbling fluidized CST reactor, and loop-seal via perforated plates. Almost solid materials exist in the CST bubbling fluidized reactor and loop-seal. However, the solid residence time in the CST bubbling fluidized reactor would decrease with an increase of solid circulation rate. It means that the heat storage of bed materials definitely should decrease.
