Two routes for the synthesis of substituted 5-oxo-5H-chromeno[3,4-c]pyridine-1-carbonitriles are described. The first route describes the cycloaddition of substituted 3-amino-2-enenitriles with salicylaldehydes. An alternative route for structurally similar 5-oxo-5H-chromeno[3,4-c]pyridine-1-carbonitriles involves the cycloaddition of 3-amino-2-enenitriles with substituted 3-acetylcoumarin. The latter route provided higher yields of the synthesized compounds. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectroscopic methods.
