We have developed a concept inventory to assess students’ understandings of the enthalpy and entropy changes that occur during solution and precipitate formation. The Enthalpy and Entropy in Dissolving and Precipitation Inventory (E<sub>2</sub>DPI) was developed based on reasoning elicited from general chemistry, physical chemistry, and biophysical chemistry students during semi-structured interviews. The assessment was administered to students in second semester general chemistry, physical chemistry, and biophysical chemistry. This data has been explored using several different lenses, including cluster analysis. Preliminary data about student and item performance will be presented.<br/>
