We report a simple, 3D-printed model of an atomic force microscope (AFM) that can be fitted with either an xy-stage or a z-stage and an "AFM head" with a cantilever assembly. Using the z-stage, a magnet attached to the tip of the cantilever, and a metal sample, we use our model to obtain true force-distance curves. These curves include snap-in, pull-off, and contact regions. The model can also be used with the xy-stage to image the force between a magnetic tip and the magnetic field of a refrigerator magnet (Halbach array).
