Concept inventories are instruments that measure students’ understandings and identify prevalent misconceptions. A concept inventory was developed using existing questions from the Acid-Base Concept Inventory, Bonding Representations Inventory, and the Redox Concept Inventory. The combined concept inventory addresses these three topics with the goal of finding any cross-cutting misconceptions students may hold about bonding when reasoning about reactions. This inventory was given to first semester general chemistry students on the first and last day of the semester. The data collected by this assessment includes individual responses and students’ confidence in their responses. Preliminary results from the administration of the concept inventory will be presented.
