Uranium tris(imido) species are rare examples of compounds that feature three uranium-element multiple bonds. Although these imido bonds are quite strong, our studies indicate fluxional behavior occurs in solution. Treating these species with Lewis basic ligands, such as THF, pyridine, bipyridine, terpyridine, 4-dimethylaminopyridine, and triphenylphosphine oxide facilitate characteriztion in the solid state. These derivatives differ in coordination geometry depending on the base used.  Full characteriztion in both the solid state and solution is reported for a new family of uranium tris(imido) species.  This is accompanied by a computational study that highlights why geometry interconversion is facile in solution.
