The Comet Chemistry Camp started with an Innovative Projects Grant, one eager undergraduate, and a cautious faculty member. Now it is a continuing week-long program where funding must be sought, and the continued question, "Is it ethical to only admit girls?" is asked constantly (and answered!). Over time, we have narrowed our age range, widened our scope and brought in more faculty and guest speakers. A group of undergraduates, graduate students, and chemists from the local ACS section work side-by-side as volunteers. This five-day summer camp has changed every year based on feedback from volunteers, campers and parents. We will take a look at the original design of the camp, the changes that have been made throughout the years, and the direction the camp is working toward. Assessment and sustainability will also be addressed, as well as a link to the current camp materials.
