Catalytic conversion of CO2 into fuels or value-added fine chemicals is one of the key topics in sustainable chemistry. However, the inertness of CO2 molecules poses a daunting obstacle to those who work on this catalytic process. The deepening research of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) brings about new opportunities to meet this challenge. As an emerging class of materials, MOFs exhibit special properties such as permanent porosity, exceptionally high surface area, and structural/functional tunability. In particular, recent endeavors in enhancing the stability of MOFs have tremendously improved their feasibility as heterogeneous catalysts. The presentation will focus on the latest development on MOF-catalyzed CO2 conversion from my lab. The design, preparation, and structural characterization of MOFs, as well as their relationship to catalytic performances, will be highlighted.
