We have revised a laboratory curriculum for introductory and intermediate undergraduate chemistry courses to incorporate Green Chemistry principles and best safety practices. Experiments have been modified to include the use of advanced analytical tools such as NMR, IR, and GC/MS, thus eliminating the use of harmful chemicals and reducing the amount of hazardous waste. Laboratory manuals have been designed to embed safety notes and precautions in the procedure to draw students' - and teaching staff's - attention to safety. These changes have resulted in training students in more environmentally friendly and safer practices.
