Vaporizing cannabis concentrates is increasing in popularity as a potential healthier alternative to smoking. However, little is known about the chemical profiles of aerosolized concentrates including the levels and identities of thermal degradation products that are produced during vaping or dabbing. Our lab is studying the impacts of the route of administration, e-cigarette and dab rig design variables, and concentrate ingredient levels on producing alterations in the aerosol chemical profiles as compared to the starting extracts. This presentation will focus on progress to date in studying the properties of model terpenes as well as key cannabinoid chemical substructures as part of a systematic, bottom-up approach to a comprehensive understanding of the thermal behavior of cannabinoids and other major constituents of extracts.
