A new nickel cerium(IV) oxide grafted Ferrocene nanocomposite, synthesized through variation of molecular concentration and reaction times was prepared via diazonium synthesis. The nanocomposite was characterized by Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), <sup>13</sup>C solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), water contact angle (WCA), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The nanocomposite was then incorporated into a nickel electrolytic plating solution for deposition onto stainless steel to function as a corrosion protection coating on the substrate. The effect of the nanoparticle on the formation, morphology, composition, and corrosion resistance of the nickel nanocomposite coating was investigated by powder x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), open-circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The cerium(IV) oxide grafted Ferrocene nickel nanocomposite exhibited improved mechanical and corrosion resistant properties as compared to pure nickel and cerium oxide-nickel nanocomposite films throughout all studies.
