3D Printing and and sometimes known as Additive manufacturing (AM) has come a long way in being considered a novelty when it comes to proto-typing, production, and application. There is a lot of interest on new materials which enable improvement on the thermo-mechanical and chemical properties of the materials for their intended application. However, new materials properties can also be observed with the application of stimuli or field effects. This talk will highlight our efforts to develop new materials and stimuli-responsiveness based on a targeted design of materials with precursor materials and after printing conversion. This will be demonstrated in the use of: 1) graphene in FDM and SLA printed materials, 2) Elastomeric TPU conversion via nanoclay leaching vis VSP, 3) Superelastic silicones via VSP, and 4) a plastic electric motor via SLS. The use of nanomaterials and their compatibilization and nanostructing is emphasized.
