Atmospheric models that accurately describe the fate and transport of trace species for the right reasons aid in development of effective policies and management strategies that safeguard human health.  Condensed phase liquid water is a substantial fraction of the total atmospheric volume, and clouds are the primary means by which pollutants from the boundary layer are vertically transported to the free troposphere. Cloud droplets are micro-reactors that provide a medium for aqueous-phase photochemistry distinctly different from chemical processes occurring the gas phase. Cloud processing defines the fate and transport of a variety of compounds that undergo transformation during transport to impact air quality and climate. Resolving key scientific questions in these areas on a time scale relevant to addressing environmental and human-health impacts requires coordinating study among different research approaches such as laboratory, field, and modeling methods, in addition to regulatory and academic perspectives. This presentation discuss how detailed chemical mechanisms from laboratory photooxidation experiments are parameterized for implementation into large scale models, how to robustly evaluate such approaches with evidence from the ambient environment, and how to effectively communicate findings to policymakers. <br/>
