A sensitive and selelctive electrochemical sensor was fabricated for detection of 4-nitrophenol by modifying glassy carbon electrode with molecular imprinted polymer particles. Molecular imprinted polymer particles were prepared using 4-nitro phenol as a template, acrylic acid as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinking agent and 2, 2-azobisisobutylnitrile as an initiator and methanol as a porogen following precipitation polymerization. The imprinted and non-imprinted polymer particles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transformed Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Differential pulse voltammetry was used as an analytical technique for detection of 4-nitrophenol by fabricated sensor. The sensor showed linear response in the concentration range 1 × 10-6 M to 5 × 10-4 M with a detection limit of 0.2uM.
