Cassandra is an open source atomistic Monte Carlo simulation package. It emerged from an academic code developed over many years in our group. We began the process of refining the code for general release starting in 2007. In 2013 we were fortunate enough to get NSF support to make the code truly useful and functional for the community and released Cassandra later that year. Since then, we have published two papers on the code and have had over 700 users download the code. Several graduate students and postdocs from my group have extended Cassandra’s capabilities and play a role in maintaining and supporting the code to this day.<br/> <br/>In this talk, I will describe the features of Cassandra and talk about some of the problems we overcame to get the code released. I will describe our efforts at maintaining and expanding the code, and some of the challenges we continue to face.  <br/>
