The calcination of metal-organic-frameworks in the presence of large pore faujasite zeolite allows for the generation of active and highly selective copper containing heterogeneous catalyst. This novel and reusable MOF derived copper oxide well-dispersed in a faujasite zeolite, CuOMOF@HY, have been applied in the C-H activation of alkenes and alkynes giving rise to the selective formation of C-C bonds in a fast, safe and environmentally friendly manner. Here we present the synthesis of pharmaceutically interesting substituted indoles and propargylamines through A3 coupling protocols, under heterogeneous and mild reaction conditions. In order to decrease the cost and toxicity of the synthetic process, we propose here the use of novel and reusable MOF as template to generate, after calcination, well-dispersed copper oxide in an inexpensive and commercial faujasite zeolite. The use of a novel CuO synthesis using metal organic framework as precursors in the presence of a porous solid such as zeolite, allows for a highly active CuO dispersed on the porous HY zeolite. The hybrid CuMOF@HY material shows a better catalytic performance than standard CuO commercial sample and the parent HY zeolite, achieving turnover number more than one magnitude higher (TON &gt; 100) for the copper sites in the CuOMOF@HY, due to a better dispersion of very smalls amounts of CuO through the zeolite porous architecture.
