The aldaric acid of sodium glucoheptonate offers the potential to be a superior renewable building block chemical as compared to glucaric acid. Electrochemical oxidation may be an attractive “green” route to this compound. The reaction occurred to an extent such that it has the potential to be an efficient method if the pH and temperature fluctuations are reduced. From <sup>13</sup>C NMR spectra of the reaction product, we concluded that the aldaric acid was present and that side reactions were minimal.
