For decades Dr. Edward Alexander has successfully encouraged and mentored countless traditionally underrepresented students into careers in the Chemical Sciences. He has achieved this as a professor, educator, and researcher in Organic Chemistry both at the University, and Community College levels. In his award address Dr. Alexander acknowledges his students and their accomplishments, and briefly presents on the circumstances and research behind his successful mentoring. This research includes Dr. Alexander’s past contributions in Organic Photochemistry and on the Bicyclo[1.1.1] Pentane Ring System published in <u>The Journal of the American Chemical Society</u>. It also includes Dr. Alexander’s current research on the Synthesis, Properties and Enzyme Inhibitions of Fatty Acid Derivatives of Vitamin C which he conducts as PI of the NIH funded Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program at San Diego Mesa College. In his presentation Dr. Alexander recognizes the many persons and institutions who have played a major role in his success.
