Metallo enzymes utilize oxido or hydroxido clusters to achive various functionality such as methane oxidation or water oxidation. The active centers are chemically separated from the bulk water by intricate protein chains. Bioinorganic approaches mimic those metal centers by using relatively small organic ligands. However, it is susceptible to oxidation reaction, and a study by using oxidation resistant ligands is necessary. Polyoxometalates in its highest oxidation state are such an example. In this contribution, manganese double cubane complexes and 3d-transition metal dimers are presented by using those inorganic ligands. The first topic is stabilization of manganese cubane complexes by polyoxovanadates, and the second topic is water soluble dimers of Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ by chemical protection for cobalt complexes with hydrogen bonding support mechanism.
