Within the field of art conservation, it is necessary to verify the components and composition of certain pigments within cultural artifacts.  Tyrian purple (6,6’-dibromoindigo) is a valuable purple dye that was historically isolated from snails, gastropod mollusks. In order to correctly identify all the pigments used on two mid-20th century Japanese <i>yukat </i>held by the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, all the dibromoindigo isomers were required. A synthetic pathway starting with bromoindene isomers was adapted from the literature. The isolation and characterization of all four isomers of dibromoindigo will be discussed.<br/>
