The Nanoporous aluminum metal-organic frameworks (Al-MOFs) were synthesized by using Al(III) ions and linear organic dicarboxylic acids under conventional heating reactions. The Al-MOFs have similar core of 1D inorganic chains forms by corner-sharing octahedral AlO6 and further connected by the carboxylate ligands to form the Kagomé topology. These inorganic chains are linked together by the organic ligands to generate two types of 1D channels of hexagonal mesopores and triangular micropores. As verified by N2 sorption measurements at 77 K, the Al-MOFs showed Type I with secondary uptakes isotherms which reveal of both microporous and mesoporous materials. The analysis from the data gave very high BET surface area and pore volume. The pore size distribution derived from the N2 adsorption isotherms using the DFT method suggests defect pores exist in the frameworks. The 27Al SS-NMR also revealed the similar results with four or five coordination of Al ions. In addition, the study on the adsorption properties and possible functional applications are also examined.
